What is this study about?

EurekaFacts, on behalf of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), is conducting focus groups to get feedback from bus riders on appropriate placement of the new farebox devices that are being installed on WMATA buses. WMATA would like hear feedback from of a variety bus riders, including able-bodied individuals and those with physical limitations.

What will happen during the focus group?

Participants will first be given an overview of the issues, including where the box cannot be placed due to driver needs and bus functioning. They will then have an opportunity to board a bus to examine where the new target would be easiest for them to use. During this time, EurekaFacts staff will prompt the participants to share their thoughts as they consider the ideal placement. Then the group of participants will meet in a focus group session to discuss their observations and thoughts.

Where will the research session take place?

The session will take place at Rockville Metro Station and on a Metrobus. Exact location will be given closer to the scheduled date.

How long will the session last and when will it take place?

The session will last no more than 60 minutes at a designated time. Sessions will take place on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

Will information be kept private and confidential?

All responses are kept completely confidential. At no time will any identifiable information be linked to any of your answers. All information collected through our research process is grouped and reported anonymously.

What are the incentives for participating?

After successful completion, participants will receive a $75 gift card from a major credit card company.

Can participation end early?

Participation in this study is completely voluntary. Participants have the right to refuse to answer questions. Participants may choose to withdraw from this study at any time but may forfeit some or all of their incentive payment depending on how early they withdraw.

What are you doing in terms of COVID-19 safety?

Our staff is following Montgomery County and WMATA guidelines for COVID-19 by wearing face masks, and social distancing as much as possible.

We ask that participants wear face mask and follow CDC guidelines as well when they come to research session site. In addition, participants are asked to wear face masks for the duration of the session, unless they are eating or drinking.
