EurekaFacts is carrying out an important study on behalf of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

We are working to help CDC be sure that their new checklists of children’s developmental milestones are worded clearly and are helpful to parents. In this interview, we will ask you to tell us what you think about the wording of the milestones (i.e. how a child plays, learns, speaks, acts, and moves) on a few of these new checklists.

The goal of this study is to collect the thoughts of parents on messages related to different developmental milestones (i.e. how a child plays, learns, speaks, acts, and moves) that closely match their child’s age. We want to make sure words and meanings are clear, understandable, and relatable for parents like you.

Your thoughts and opinions will help improve messages for different milestone checklists for other parents and their children nationwide.

Here is some background information about this paid study:

  • We will conduct a 60-90 minute one-on-one interview online or by telephone. The interview will be held on a day and time that works best for you.
  • Interviews will be held in English or Spanish.
  • You will be asked questions on how clear and relatable the messages are to you.
  • You will receive a $100 Visa gift card as a thank you when you complete the interview.
  • This is study voluntary. You can choose whether to take part or not.
  • Your answers will remain private. Your answers to questions will be not be reported with any personally identifiable information.
  • You may choose not to answer any question.
  • You may withdraw at any time.
  • CDC funds this study.

What is this study about?

EurekaFacts is conducting this study. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funds this study to conduct one-on-one interviews with parents of children between the ages of 4 months and 5 years old about messages related to different milestone checklists (i.e. how a child plays, learns, speaks, acts, and moves).

What is the purpose of the study?

The goal of this study is to share the thoughts of parents on messages related to different developmental milestones and how parents understand and react to the information. We want to make sure words and meanings are clear, understandable, and relatable for parents like you. Your thoughts and opinions will help improve messages for different milestone checklists for other parents and their children nationwide.

What will happen during the interview?  

During the interview, participants will be asked by the interviewer to share their thoughts on messages related to different milestone checklists that closely match their child’s age. All interviews will be audio and video recorded with permission given by the participant.

How long will the interview last? 

The interview session will last about 60-90 minutes.

What language will the interviews be conducted in? 

Interviews will be held in English or Spanish.

What are the possible risks?

There are no risks linked with participating in this study beyond what is found in everyday life.  

How did you get my contact information? 

You and others like yourself have been selected as residents of the United States who have voiced interest in taking part in a study.

Will my information be kept confidential? 

Yes. You will be assigned an ID number, and your responses will not be linked to your name. This way, the information you provide will remain private.

What are the incentives for participating? 

If you qualify to take part in the interview and arrive at your scheduled time, you will get a $100 Visa gift card as a thank you for participation.

What is the length of this study? 

We will be holding the one-on-one interview sessions between April to June 2020.

Where will the interview take place?  

Interviews will take place online via laptop or desktop computer, tablet, or smartphone. Interviews will also take place by telephone. Participants choose the method that works best for them.

Can participation end early?

You can choose to participate or not. The participant has the right to refuse to answer questions. The participant may choose to withdraw from this study at any time and can leave the interview early if they wish.
