Director of Research Programs

Position Description

The Director of Research Programs manages and grows a successful portfolio of social research programs serving clients in a growing practice. Typical activity includes studies in communications research and customer engagement, primarily in public health, education, transportation, government services and consumer services. Responsibilities include: maintain a healthy source of new contract opportunities with government agencies, prime contractors, and private sector firms in the commercial and nonprofit sectors; manage research studies and client relationships to ensure total client satisfaction and successful service delivery meeting methodological, financial and resource usage requirements; manage and mentor staff to support our growth. This is a senior position and therefore we seek extensive knowledge, expertise and experience in the design and implementation of multi-mode, large-scale, complex data collection/coordination efforts, survey research, quantitative methods, plus strong leadership skills.


  1.  Direct research programs in compliance with proposed activity, contract requirements and the ISO 20252 standard for social research and analytics, meeting scope, budget, timeline and client satisfaction targets.
  2. Conduct business development efforts to identify business opportunities and follow up to materialize them into social science research projects.
  3. Work with the team to develop targeted proposals to meet client needs and financial objectives, present them to clients and win approval.
  4. Participate in the design and execution of program evaluation, survey research, market research and analysis studies, while coordinating efforts with clients, staff, and vendors. Work with clients and execute projects maintaining the highest quality standards consistent with project budget and allotted timelines.
  5. Work with the data collection operations teams, analysts and other team members to obtain the support needed and deliver top quality service according to project specifications.
  6. Work with the analytical team to finalize project deliverables, interpret findings and place them in the context of the client’s business objectives, presenting clear, accurate, and concisely written reports and presentations.
  7. Conduct presentations of capabilities, proposals, project findings and other material to diverse audiences and advise clients on research dissemination strategy.
  8. Work with current clients and prospects to identify new opportunities with existing clients and to work with new clients to help grow our business.
  9. Coordinate multiple research programs utilizing a wide range of research methods.
  10. Develop staff, methods, processes, policies, QA, and contribute to the overall corporate environment to enhance our strength.


  • Advanced degree in social science research with focus on quantitative and multimethod research, and data analysis.
  • A minimum of ten years of experience directing complex social science research projects in at least one content domain such as education, public health, public policy, transportation/infrastructure, and/or healthcare.
  • Expertise with multiple data collection methodologies and expert level quantitative analytical analysis and comprehensive writing skills. Expertise with complex multi-stage, multi-mode research studies is a must.
  • Strong expertise in social sciences including research methods, literature reviews, qualitative research, survey methodology, sampling methodologies documented by successful publications, research and presentations.
  • Familiarity with IRB and OMB reviews for data collection in social science research, with experience conducting social science research for federal agencies.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, communications and interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Excellent customer focus, negotiation and communications skills. Proven experience in interacting with clients demonstrating success in client relationship building and client management.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, strong attention to detail and coordination skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams and budgets.
  • US citizenship, with ability to obtain and maintain public trust clearances
